Green Infrastructure, Parks & Recreation

Chris Zimmerman has consistently supported Arlington’s neighborhood parks and recreation resources. Highlights of his tenure include:

  • Creation of an urban forestry initiative, cataloging the County’s inventory of tree stock, and adding more than 10,000 trees to the canopy, as well as a program to combat invasive species.

  • Pioneering the use of “synthetic grass” athletic fields, which are easier to maintain and safer for athletes than other surfaces.

  • Advocated development of the Long Bridge Park (aka “north tract”) into a first-class, multi-purpose park and recreation center, which will break ground this year.
